DESCRIPTION: Good risk management and effective controls are necessary for effective for long term success of organizations. That is the fundamental principle of the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission on risk management. In healthcare, we perform traditional risk management where risks are identified at the process-based level, not at the strategic level. In 2015, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) published an Enterprise Risk Management Playbook as the association recognized the need to shift healthcare risk management to the organizational and strategic perspectives. To this day, healthcare risk management continues to evolve so that significant strides and maturity in the management of healthcare risks is focused at the strategic level.
